Blonde Book Nerd

I have a love of books. Reading and reviewing with a coffee - That's the life.
Alex (Verhœven, #2) - Pierre Lemaitre, Frank Wynne Now before I start I want to point out that this book happens to be the first thriller I have read. The blurb caught my eye when I was looking for a book to read at my local bookstore and one of the staff members was actually in the middle of reading [b:Alex|18039275|Alex|Pierre Lemaitre|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1370355416s/18039275.jpg|15607063] and recommended it to me.Alex, a woman of around thirty. Very pretty and full of life is kidnapped from the streets of Paris. She is no ordinary victim, but her time is running out.Commandant Camille Verhoeven and his detectives have no suspects, no lead or even a name for the victim. The enigma that is the fate of Alex will keep Verhoeven guessing until the bitter, bitter end. And before long, saving her life will be the least of his worries. This is [a:Pierre Lemaitre|822613|Pierre Lemaitre|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1361269955p2/822613.jpg] second book in the Verhoeven trilogy, though the first to be translated to English.Others have described this book at "Shocking" or "Gruesome" but I didn't find it any of those things. Yes things that occurred in this novel were horrible, but that's it.I didn't feel for this what others may have, or will. I think I put it down to the fact my favourite genre of movie is horror/thriller and I expected it to present itself in book form just the same, but it didn't.Little things annoyed me. It would seem that the second someone new steps into a scene the POV switches onto them. I also noticed that sometimes when you thought you were reading the thoughts of someone, you were in fact reading them talking aloud, as someone would automatically answer them, without a question being asked. (I have no idea if that came across as making sense)I didn't really connect with any of the characters. Though I will say I'm a big believer in KARMA. What goes around, comes around. I didn't at all expect Alex to be a murderer. Nor did I like her thought patterns. The whole thing seemed a little far fetched to me
